Where the rainforest meets the reef is the best way to describe the Tropical North.
Magnificent heritage listed rainforests stretch from the hinterlands down to the golden sands
of the picture perfect, palm lined beaches.
The rooftop canopy of the rainforest allow smaller species of plant life to grow, protected from
the harsh tropical sun and keeping the lower levels of the rainforest in a damp, humid environment.
The summer months provide heavy tropical rains, sometimes cyclonic conditions, to keep the rainforest
alive and well. The rainforests have been growing for well over 100million years.
Under the rainforest canopy a host of animal life includes many varieties of insects, birds,
mammals, reptiles and amphibians. The rainforests are home to over thousands of plant species including
trees, vines, palms, ferns, epiphytes. Unknown plants and animal species are still
being discovered to this day.
Many crystal clear rivers flow through deep gorges providing an oppurtunity to cool of from the
humid conditions. Very often you can see fish and eels swimming around with you.
You could easily spend a week bushwalking, birdwatching and being amazed at the awesome sights of
the rainforest.
